About me
I’ve loved writing since age 6 and I’ve always been fascinated by the power of language and storytelling to inspire, motivate, elevate an experience and drive understanding. My superpowers are versatility, brand voice and resourceful problem-solving. (The latter isn’t just useful for concept creation, but also for fixing broken objects and Marie-Kondo-ing the heck out of a messy space!)
I approach challenges with the empathy and iterative patience of design thinking and the analytical broad view of systems thinking. What I love most about my work is its potential to provide people a clear moment in this sometimes muddled world.
I play well with others.
I enjoy funny things.
I’ve been told I’m handy to have around.
What I’ve learned along the way
Language has been at the center of my diverse career, and at each step I’ve gained valuable skills. Teaching ESL in Spain gave me practice presenting ideas in a clear and incremental way. It also gave me the patience of careful listening and the empathy needed to communicate on the right level with the learner. As an in-house copywriter, I developed a deep understanding of how to maintain a consistent brand voice and how to shift the tone to each situation. Working at an agency, I learned marketing strategy and adaptability through projects as wide-ranging as the industries themselves (public awareness, finance, tech, education, to name a few). My experience with content design has honed my research abilities and given me new insights into the user journey. I’m looking forward to using these skills and continuing my growth in my next chapter!
What I’m looking for
My ideal job is one in which I could make a positive difference in people’s lives. It is important to me to have my values align with those of the company in terms of social responsibility, environmental issues and ethics.
I would thrive in a flexible environment with a supportive work culture, which leaves room for independence, yet provides a structure that fosters constructive feedback and personal growth.
I am only considering remote jobs or hybrid roles in the Seattle area.
Personal background
I grew up in Seattle when outsiders still considered it an unvisited corner in a vague wilderness. I’ve also lived portions of my life in Belgium, Barcelona, Brooklyn and Berlin. Apparently, I gravitate towards places that start with B. After many years away, I’m now back in the Seattle area—Burien to be exact (Hey! Another B place!).
I have tried on many hobbies in my free time. I’ve worked in theater, doing costuming, prop work, grant writing and performing. I draft my own sewing patterns and pride myself in the knowledge I can design and make just about anything that can be sewn (clothing of all kinds, bags, couch covers, puppets, giant hippo head costumes, etc.). I take online classes when I can’t get to them in person. I read a lot. Subjects recently rattling in my brain are how public policy is shaped, sustainable product development and the circular economy.
